Humphreys County is located in the Delta Region of Mississippi. Humphreys County was formed on March 28, 1918 and was named in honor of Benjamin G. Humphreys, a general for the Confederate States of America during the civil war, and later a governor of the state. Humphreys County was named Farm-Raised Catfish Capital of the World in 1976.

The county seat is Belzoni, named for the 19th century Italian explorer Giovanni Battista Belzoni. Other Humphreys County communities include: Isola, Louise, Silver City, and Midnight. In it's first census in 1920 there were 19,192 residents listed. In the last federal census in 2000 the population was 11,206.
